Area Code 702 Split - New Area Code 775 Introduced

Effective December 12, 1998, the 702 area code split in Nevada. All Nevada Bell telephone service subscribers served outside of Clark County changed to the new area code, 775. Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, retained the 702 area code.

How will this affect Nevada Bell Internet customers?

If you live in Reno area and have our basic analog service this area code split should not affect you. However, if you are not in the local area and need to dial the area code for our local access number, you will need to change your dialer or your calls will be routed to Las Vegas.

ISDN and LAN-ISDN customers will be required to dial 10 digits to access our service. Your ISDN equipment is programmed with the area code in the Service Profile Identifier (SPID). Due to the recent change in your area code, your ISDN equipment needs to be reprogrammed and reinitialized to change the area code digits in the SPID.

During the conversion period, if the SPID is not reprogrammed and reinitialized, your ISDN service will continue to work and it will reinitialize itself after a service interruption / power failure. After May 15, 1999, if you d not change the area code on your ISDN SPID, your service will not reinitialize itself.

Mandatory dialing begins May 15, 1999. After May 15, callers dialing into the 775 area code using 702 will receive a recording that will ask them to redial using the new area code. For assistance in changing your dialer to reflect the new area code, our Get Help page will guide your through the steps.
