Netscape Communicator for the Macintosh

Setting up a New User Profile
  1. Double-click on the Hard Disk icon on your desktop
  2. Double-click on the Netscape Communicator Folder
  3. In the Netscape Communicator Folder, double-click on the User Profile Manager icon
  4. You will then see a screen which explains the purpose of User Profiles. After reading it, click on the Next button
  5. You will then see the User Profile Manager screen which shows the existing User Profiles. To add a new one, click on the New button
  6. At the next screen with the heading Information About You: for the Your Name entry, enter the name you would like to appear on your outgoing messages
  7. For the E-mail address entry, enter the complete e-mail address of the mailbox
  8. Click on Next button to continue
  9. At the next screen with the heading Your Profile Name, enter a profile name for mailbox. The name you entered in the previous screen is the default Profile Name and is recommended
  10. Click on Next button to continue
  11. At the next screen with the heading Your Profile Folder, a folder is listed where the files and settings will be saved. It is recommended that you use this default folder
  12. Click on Next button to continue
  13. At the next screen with the heading Setup Completed, click on the Done button to complete the setup process


Configuring the New User Profile

  1. Start Netscape Communicator. You will be able to choose the profile you wish to use for this Netscape session. Highlight the profile you wish to configure then click on the Start button.
  2. Once Netscape Communicator is up, click on Edit option from the toolbar at the top of the screen. In the Edit drop down menu, click on Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences for xxxx screen, click on Navigator from the Category menu (on the left side of the screen)
  4. In the Navigator starts with section box (on the right side), make sure that the Home page option is selected
  5. In the Home page section box, for the Home page location entry, enter http://dialup.nvbell.net/
  6. Click on the OK button
  7. In the Preferences for xxxx screen, double-click on Mail & Groups from the Category menu (on the left side of the screen)
  8. Click on the Identity option under the Mail & Groups heading
  9. For the Your name entry, enter your name
  10. For the E-mail address entry, enter the complete address for the mailbox
  11. For the Reply-to-address entry, enter the complete address for the mailbox
  12. Click on the OK button
  13. In the Preferences for xxxx screen, click on the Mail Server option under the Mail & Groups heading from the Category menu on the left hand side of the window
  14. For the Mail server user name entry, enter userID of the mailbox
  15. For the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server entry, enter mail.nvbell.net
  16. For the Incoming mail server entry, enter postoffice.nvbell.net
  17. Click on the OK button
  18. In the Preferences for xxxx screen, click on the Groups Server option under the Mail & Groups heading from the Category menu on the left hand side of the window
  19. For the Discussion groups (news) server entry, enter news.la.sbcglobal.net or news.sf.sbcglobal.net
  20. For the Port entry, enter 119
  21. Click on the OK button

From now on you will be prompted to select a profile to use before launching Netscape Communicator.
