Netscape Communicator for Windows 3.1x
Setting up a New User Profile
- Open your Netscape Communicator program
- At the Communicator folder screen, double-click the User Profile Manager icon
- You will then see a window that explains the purpose of User Profiles. After reading it, click on the Next button
- You will then see the Profile Manager screen showing the existing User Profiles. To add a new one, click on the New button
- You will then see the New Profile Setup screen. For the Your Full Name entry, enter your name
- For the E-mail Address (if available) entry, enter the complete address of the mailbox
- You will then see a continuation of the New Profile Setup screen. For the Profile Name entry, enter a profile name for this mailbox configuration. The userID of the mailbox is the default and recommended.
- For the next entry on the screen, we recommend using the default directory that is automatically shown
- Click on the Next button
- You will then see a continuation of the New Profile Setup screen. For the Your name entry, enter the name you wish to appear on outgoing messages
- For the E-mail Address entry, enter the complete address of the mailbox
- For the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server entry, enter mail.nvbell.net
- Click on the Next button to continue
- You will then see a continuation of the New Profile Setup screen. For the Mail server user name entry, enter the userID for the mailbox
- For the Incoming mail server entry, enter postoffice.nvbell.net
- For the Mail Server type entry, select the POP3 (messages and folders are kept locally, on the hard disk) option
- Click on the Next button to continue
- You will then see a continuation of the New Profile Setup screen. For the Discussion group (news) server entry, enter news.la.sbcglobal.net or news.sf.sbcglobal.net
- For the Port entry, enter 119
- Make sure that the Secure option box is unchecked.
- Click on the Finish button to complete the setup. Netscape will automatically start with the new settings.
From now on you will be prompted to select a profile to use before starting Netscape.
