FCC Ruling Regarding Internet Access

March 30, 1999

Many of our customers have expressed concern regarding the recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruling that dial-up calls to access the Internet are interstate in nature and subject to federal jurisdiction.

The FCC decision exempts the Internet and other information services from interstate access charges. This means that customers who continue to access the Internet by dialing a local number will not incur long distance charges when they do so.

The FCC has published a Fact Sheet that may clarify the issue. Included are answers to consumers' more frequently asked questions about the ruling.
