Nevada Bell Internet and Macintosh OSX
Nevada Bell Internet has not yet extensively tested Mac OS X. We have been informed by our DSL Internet software provider that the EnterNet 300 software for Mac is not compatible with OS X. Accordingly, we advise Mac users who are upgrading to OS X not to install EnterNet 300 software to connect to our DSL Internet network. We do not (yet) officially support OS X for DSL Internet and there is no support for it via telephone. However, we have found that the built-in PPPoE software in OS X will work with the Nevada Bell Internet DSL Internet network. The following procedure was tested by Nevada Bell Internet Services with success. If you experience any difficulties, please contact Apple for further support. Configuring the PPPoE software included with OS X
Before following this procedure, make sure your modem and all the necessary cables are connected to your Macintosh.
1. In the Finder, go to the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen and select "System Preferences".
2. In the System Preferences window select "Network".
3. Select "New Location" from the Location pop-up menu. You will be asked to name your location. You should name it something simple that you will remember, like "NBI DSL."

4. Now that you've made a new location, you need to choose how it connects to the Internet. Select "Built-in Ethernet" from the Configure pop-up menu.
- You may add the PBI Domain Name Servers in the "Domain Name Servers" box, if you wish, however, this step is optional:
Pacific Bell/Nevada Bell Territory
Select the server nearest to you as your Primary:Los Angeles: 206.13.29.12 San Diego: 206.13.30.12 Sacramento: 206.13.31.12 San Francisco: 206.13.28.12 In the "Search Domains" box, enter:
nvbell.net
5. Next, click on the "PPPoE" tab and fill out the fields as shown in the diagram below.
- If you wish, enter PBI under the "Service Provider" field.
- Make sure "Connect using PPPoE" is checked.
- Enter your username in the field labeled "Account Name".
- Enter your password in thte "Password" field. . OS X saves your password by default, so if you do not want it saved you'll need to uncheck that box. (Please note that passwords are case sensitive. If you enter an incorrect PW, OS X does not generate an error message and wont be able to access the Internet)
6. Next, click the "PPPoE Options" button. A panel with connection options will slide out, as in the diagram below. Under "Session Options", make sure "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" is checked. The other "Session Options" choices are optional. Under "Advanced Options", "Send PPP echo packets" should be checked.
7. Save your changes, close the window and open up your Internet application such as a web browser to access the Internet.
If you cannot access any web sites or receive your e-mail, follow these additional steps:
1. Double-Click on the icon labeled Macintosh HD on your desktop.
2. Open the folder titled Applications by double-clicking on it.
3. Launch the application titled Internet Connect by double-clicking on it.
4. Ensure that Built-in Ethernet is selected under the Configuration drop down.
Ensure that your SBC DSL user name is displayed
Re-Enter your password in the Password field.
Click on the Connect button
5. Once you are connected, open up your Internet application such as Internet Explorer (included with OS X) to access the Internet
